About Belarus

Republic of Belarus is situated in the center of Europe. Territory of Belarus occupies 207,6 square kilometers. It is compact. Its maximum extension west-to-east compose 650 kilometers, north-to-south – 560 kilometers. In size of the territory Republic ranks № 13 among European states and № 6 among CIS states (after Russia, Kazakstan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan). Number of inhabitants – circa 10 million people, 70% of population is concentrated in cities. In the capital of the Republic of Belarus – Minsk city – live circa fifth part of state’s popularity. According to the civil division the Republic is divided into six regions. State languages are Belarusian and Russian languages. The most popular languages of business communications are Russian, English and German.

Through the territory of the Republic of Belarus run the shortest transport communications that bind CIS states with countries of Western Europe. Belarus is conterminal to Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia and Ukraine.

Constitution of the Republic of Belarus dated year 1994 with amendments was enacted through republican referendum on 24 of November 1996. Constitution determine the Republic of Belarus as unitary, democratic, social, legal state that has in possession supremacy and full authority on its territory and independently exercise internal and external policy. Territory of the Republic of Belarus is determined as natural conditions of existence and space boarder of nation’s self-determination, basis of its prosperity and sovereignty. Territiry of the Republic of Belarus is united and unalienable. State authority is exercised on the basis of its division into legislative, executive and judicial branches. Belarus is presidential republic. President of the Republic of Belarus is the head of the state, guarantee of the Constitution, human rights and freedoms. According to the Constitution, Parliament that consists of two chambers is determined as legislative power. Executive power in the Republic is exercised by Government – Council of Ministers – central organ of state governing.

Local government is exercised local executive and regulatory authorities, public authorities, referendums etc.

Judicial power belongs to courts. Control for constitutionalism of normative acts is exercised by Constitutional court.

Belarus is one of economically developed country in CIS. In the economy of the Republic industrial fraction has 1/3 part of national product amount. Maximal development have such industrial sectors as motor-car construction, tractor construction, electrical industry, petroleum industry, synthetic fibre production, mineral manure production, pharmaceutical industry, constructional materials production, light and food industries. Outstanding feature of national industry is finished-product output the biggest part of which is exported.
